Vulnerability Overview

The WP Photo Album Plus plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to IP Address Spoofing in versions up to, and including, 8.5.02.005. This is due to insufficient restrictions on where the IP Address information is being retrieved for request logging and login restrictions. Attackers can supply a header that allows their IP address to appear from a different location.

Technical Analysis

The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed, and no privileges on the target site, and no interaction from a victim user.

CWE-348: Use of Less Trusted Source

The product has two different sources of the same data or information, but it uses the source that has less support for verification, is less trusted, or is less resistant to attack.

Remediation

Update to version 8.6.01.005, or a newer patched version

How does WordSec protect against this?

The attempt arrives as an ordinary request to WP Photo Album Plus: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: WP Photo Album Plus 8.6.01.005 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
