At a glance

CVE-2026-18316 is a critical-severity Missing Authorization vulnerability in the Solace Extra WordPress plugin, affecting versions <= 1.6.0. It carries a CVSS score of 9.1 (reachable over the network; low attack complexity; high integrity, availability impact). Exploitation requires no authentication. The issue is fixed in version 1.6.1; sites on affected versions should update now. Disclosed August 2026, reported by Wordfence PRISM.

Vulnerability Overview

The Solace Extra plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification and loss of data due to a missing capability check on the import_zip() function in versions up to, and including, 1.6.0. The handler is registered on both wp_ajax_action-import-zip and wp_ajax_nopriv_action-import-zip and only verifies the 'ajax-nonce' nonce, which is emitted on every admin page via wp_localize_script (unrestricted admin_enqueue_scripts hook) and is therefore accessible to any authenticated user including Subscribers. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to wipe navigation menus, sidebar widgets (via update_option('sidebars_widgets', array())), all theme mods (via remove_theme_mods()), and Elementor templates, as well as trigger arbitrary demo-content imports.

Technical Analysis

The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed, and no privileges on the target site, and no interaction from a victim user. A successful exploit has high impact on integrity, availability.

CWE-862: Missing Authorization

Solace Extra <= 1.6.0 carries this weakness at ajax-nonce, and reaching it takes no account at all. A missing authorization check means a function is reachable by anyone who can reach the endpoint, because the code never asks whether the caller is allowed to perform the action.

Any user who can reach the endpoint gets to run an action reserved for higher-privileged roles, from reading protected data to changing settings or content. For Solace Extra the fix is 1.6.1: builds <= 1.6.0 are affected, anything from 1.6.1 onward is not.

Remediation

Update to version 1.6.1, or a newer patched version

How does WordSec protect against this?

This one needs no account at all, which puts it outside what login hardening can reach; WordSec's login security narrows the account-level paths around it, and the firewall is what inspects the request itself. None of that substitutes for the fix: Solace Extra 1.6.1 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
