At a glance
CVE-2025-14123 is a medium-severity Improper Privilege Management vulnerability in the Redux Framework WordPress plugin, affecting versions <= 4.5.11. It carries a CVSS score of 6.8 (reachable over the network; high confidentiality, integrity impact). Exploitation requires an authenticated account at Subscriber level or above. The issue is fixed in version 4.5.13; sites on affected versions should update now. Disclosed October 2026, reported by shark3y.
Vulnerability Overview
The Redux Framework plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to privilege escalation in all versions up to, and including, 4.5.11. This is due to the plugin saving arbitrary meta keys under a registered option name without sufficient capability checks or key allowlist / restrictions. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to set an arbitrary role (e.g., Administrator) when performing a profile update if a plugin or theme using this framework has added at least one user profile field that leverages Redux_Users::set_profile/set_section/set_field.
Technical Analysis
The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, and no interaction from a victim user. A successful exploit has high impact on confidentiality, integrity.
CWE-269: Improper Privilege Management
Reaching this weakness in Redux Framework <= 4.5.11 takes an account at Subscriber level or above. Improper privilege management means the code lets an account end up with capabilities its role should not have.
It converts a low-privileged account into an administrative one, which makes every other restriction on the site irrelevant. For Redux Framework the fix is 4.5.13: builds <= 4.5.11 are affected, anything from 4.5.13 onward is not.
Remediation
Update to version 4.5.13, or a newer patched version
How does WordSec protect against this?
Because it turns on account access, WordSec's login security is the relevant layer: role-based two-factor, captcha and brute-force limits raise the cost of getting the account this needs. None of that substitutes for the fix: Redux Framework 4.5.13 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
