Strategic Overview

At a glance

CVE-2026-111965 is a medium-severity Guessable CAPTCHA vulnerability in the User Profile Builder WordPress plugin, affecting versions 4.0.0 – 4.0.4. It carries a CVSS score of 4.3 (reachable over the network; low attack complexity). Exploitation requires an authenticated account at Subscriber level or above. The issue is fixed in version 4.0.5; sites on affected versions should update now. Disclosed October 2026, reported by Naoki Kawahigashi.

Vulnerability Overview

The Profile Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Security Feature Bypass in versions 4.0.0 through 4.0.4. This is due to missing enforcement of reCAPTCHA verification for comment submissions arriving via XML-RPC or the REST API in the wppb_verify_recaptcha_default_wp_comments and wppb_verify_turnstile_default_wp_comments functions. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to bypass the reCAPTCHA anti-spam protection on the WordPress comment form by submitting comments via the XML-RPC or REST API, circumventing the configured CAPTCHA entirely. The reCAPTCHA or Turnstile field must be enabled for the default WordPress comment form in the plugin settings.

Technical Analysis

The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed, and no interaction from a victim user.

CWE-804: Guessable CAPTCHA

The product uses a CAPTCHA challenge, but the challenge can be guessed or automatically recognized by a non-human actor.

Remediation

Update to version 4.0.5, or a newer patched version

How does WordSec protect against this?

Because it turns on account access, WordSec's login security is the relevant layer: role-based two-factor, captcha and brute-force limits raise the cost of getting the account this needs. None of that substitutes for the fix: User Profile Builder 4.0.5 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
