At a glance
CVE-2024-32078 is a medium-severity URL Redirection to Untrusted Site ('Open Redirect') vulnerability in the FV Flowplayer Video Player WordPress plugin, affecting versions <= 7.5.44.7212. It carries a CVSS score of 5.4 (reachable over the network; low attack complexity). Exploitation requires an authenticated account at Contributor level or above. The issue is fixed in version 7.5.45.7212; sites on affected versions should update now. Disclosed April 2024, reported by Byeongjun Jo.
Vulnerability Overview
The FV Flowplayer Video Player plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized redirects in all versions up to, and including, 7.5.44.7212. This is due to the plugin not restricting contributor and above users from being able to add redirects at the end of videos. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with contributor-level access and above, to redirect administrators to arbitrary sites that can be malicious.
Technical Analysis
The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed.
CWE-601: URL Redirection to Untrusted Site ('Open Redirect')
Reaching this weakness in FV Flowplayer Video Player <= 7.5.44.7212 takes an account at Contributor level or above. An open redirect is a page that takes a destination from the request and sends the browser there without checking that the destination belongs to the site.
A link that starts on a trusted domain finishes on an attacker's, which is what makes phishing and consent-screen abuse credible to the person clicking it. For FV Flowplayer Video Player the fix is 7.5.45.7212: builds <= 7.5.44.7212 are affected, anything from 7.5.45.7212 onward is not.
Remediation
Update to version 7.5.45.7212, or a newer patched version
How does WordSec protect against this?
An attacker needs Contributor access first, so the firewall sees the attempt as traffic from a logged-in account: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: FV Flowplayer Video Player 7.5.45.7212 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
