Vulnerability Overview

The FV Flowplayer Video Player plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the comment text in all versions up to, and including, 7.5.49.7212 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Exploitation requires an administrator to have enabled the non-default 'Parse Vimeo and YouTube links' (parse_comments) plugin setting, and requires a submitted comment to be approved by an administrator before the payload is publicly delivered.

Reaching this weakness in FV Flowplayer Video Player <= 7.5.49.7212 takes no account at all. Cross-site scripting happens when input from a request is written into a page without being escaped for the context it lands in, so the browser parses attacker-supplied text as markup or script.

Injected script runs with the privileges of whoever views the affected page, which is how these flaws turn into administrator session theft, silent account creation or persistent backdoors in page content. For FV Flowplayer Video Player the fix is 7.5.50.7212: builds <= 7.5.49.7212 are affected, anything from 7.5.50.7212 onward is not.
