Vulnerability Overview

The Calendar Event Multi View plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to authorization bypass due to a missing capability check on event creation and deletion in versions up to, and including, 1.4.06 . This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to manipulate events. Additionally, some of the event fields do not undergo proper sanitization leading to the potential of Stored Cross-Site Scripting.

Reaching this weakness in CP Multi View Events Calendar <= 1.4.06 takes a caller who can reach the endpoint. Cross-site scripting happens when input from a request is written into a page without being escaped for the context it lands in, so the browser parses attacker-supplied text as markup or script.

Injected script runs with the privileges of whoever views the affected page, which is how these flaws turn into administrator session theft, silent account creation or persistent backdoors in page content. For CP Multi View Events Calendar the fix is 1.4.07: builds <= 1.4.06 are affected, anything from 1.4.07 onward is not.

Update to version 1.4.07, or a newer patched version

The attempt arrives as an ordinary request to CP Multi View Events Calendar: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: CP Multi View Events Calendar 1.4.07 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
