At a glance
CVE-2026-101138 is a medium-severity Incorrect Authorization vulnerability in the CMP WordPress plugin, affecting versions 4.1.19 – 4.1.20. It carries a CVSS score of 5.3 (reachable over the network; low attack complexity). Exploitation requires no authentication. The issue is fixed in version 4.1.21; sites on affected versions should update now. Disclosed October 2026, reported by Sanjeev Kumar.
Vulnerability Overview
The CMP – Coming Soon & Maintenance Plugin by NiteoThemes plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized access in versions 4.1.19 through 4.1.20. This is due to missing normalization (URL-decoding and lowercasing) of stored custom URL patterns before comparison with fnmatch, combined with construction of the current URL from a spoofable source rather than home_url(). This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to view pages that should be blocked by maintenance mode by crafting URLs with percent-encoded characters or mixed case that fail to match the stored URL patterns, bypassing the maintenance mode restriction entirely. At least one custom URL pattern must be configured in the plugin's page whitelist or blacklist settings.
Technical Analysis
The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed, and no privileges on the target site, and no interaction from a victim user.
CWE-863: Incorrect Authorization
CMP 4.1.19 – 4.1.20 carries this weakness at home_url(), and reaching it takes no account at all. Incorrect authorization means a permission check exists but evaluates the wrong thing, so it passes for callers it was meant to stop.
The action runs for users the code intended to exclude, with the same effect as having no check at all. For CMP the fix is 4.1.21: builds 4.1.19 – 4.1.20 are affected, anything from 4.1.21 onward is not.
Remediation
Update to version 4.1.21, or a newer patched version
How does WordSec protect against this?
This one needs no account at all, which puts it outside what login hardening can reach; WordSec's login security narrows the account-level paths around it, and the firewall is what inspects the request itself. None of that substitutes for the fix: CMP 4.1.21 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
