At a glance
CVE-2026-27085 is a high-severity Improper Neutralization of Special Elements in Output Used by a Downstream Component ('Injection') vulnerability in the Astra WordPress theme, affecting versions <= 4.13.12. It carries a CVSS score of 7.2 (reachable over the network; low attack complexity; high confidentiality, integrity, availability impact). Exploitation requires an authenticated account at Shop Manager level or above. The issue is fixed in version 4.14.0; sites on affected versions should update now. Disclosed September 2026, reported by SavPhill (Savphill).
Vulnerability Overview
The Astra theme for WordPress is vulnerable to Remote Code Execution in all versions up to, and including, 4.13.12. This is due to missing sanitize_callback on the astra-color-palettes and astra-settings[global-color-palette] customizer controls, combined with insufficient CSS value sanitization that did not strip declaration-breaking characters such as semicolons and braces. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with shop manager-level access and above, to inject arbitrary CSS into pages by supplying crafted color values through the global color palette customizer setting, breaking out of CSS declarations and altering page appearance or injecting malicious style rules.
Technical Analysis
The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed, and no interaction from a victim user. A successful exploit has high impact on confidentiality, integrity, availability — full site compromise territory.
CWE-74: Improper Neutralization of Special Elements in Output Used by a Downstream Component ('Injection')
The product constructs all or part of a command, data structure, or record using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify how it is parsed or interpreted when it is sent to a downstream component.
Remediation
Update to version 4.14.0, or a newer patched version
How does WordSec protect against this?
An attacker needs Shop Manager access first, so the firewall sees the attempt as traffic from a logged-in account: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: Astra 4.14.0 closes this, and updating the theme is the step that ends it.
