Vulnerability Overview

The WPO365 | Login plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery in versions up to, and including, 43.2. This is due to the Ajax_Service::verify_ajax_request() helper gating its wp_verify_nonce() call behind the boolean option 'enable_nonce_check', which is absent from the default 'wpo365_options' array and therefore evaluates to false via get_global_boolean_var(); as a result, the wp_ajax_wpo365_update_settings handler (Ajax_Service::update_settings) accepts POSTs from cross-origin pages and forwards the attacker-supplied 'settings' payload (base64/JSON) to Options_Service::update_options(), which merges every key/value into wpo365_options without a key allowlist. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to overwrite arbitrary plugin options — including enabling the SCIM REST endpoint (enable_scim), planting an attacker-known scim_secret_token, and setting new_usr_default_role to 'administrator' — via a forged request granted they can trick a site administrator into performing an action such as clicking on a link.

Technical Analysis

The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed, and no privileges on the target site. A successful exploit has high impact on confidentiality, integrity, availability — full site compromise territory.

CWE-352: Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF)

WPO365 <= 43.2 carries this weakness at enable_nonce_check, and reaching it takes a caller who can reach the endpoint. Cross-site request forgery abuses the fact that browsers attach a victim's cookies to any request, so a state-changing action that only checks who you are, not whether you meant to act, can be triggered from another site.

An attacker who gets a logged-in user to load a crafted page can perform that action as them, with the impact scaling to whatever the victim's role is allowed to do. For WPO365 the fix is 43.3: builds <= 43.2 are affected, anything from 43.3 onward is not.

Remediation

Update to version 43.3, or a newer patched version

How does WordSec protect against this?

The attempt arrives as an ordinary request to WPO365: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: WPO365 43.3 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
