Vulnerability Overview

The Redirection for Contact Form 7 plugin is vulnerable to Authenticated Privilege Escalation in versions up to, and including, 2.7.0 due to the ability to update usermeta information. This allows authenticated attackers with Editor-level permissions and above to modify their permissions and grant themselves administrator privileges.

Because it turns on account access, WordSec's login security is the relevant layer: role-based two-factor, captcha and brute-force limits raise the cost of getting the account this needs. None of that substitutes for the fix: Redirection for Contact Form 7 2.8.0 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
