Vulnerability Overview

The Smush Image Optimization – Optimize Images | Compress & Lazy Load Images | Convert WebP & AVIF | Image CDN plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Directory Traversal in all versions up to, and including, 3.17.0. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Administrator-level access and above, to perform actions on files outside of the originally intended directory.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 3.17.1, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')) The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory.
