Vulnerability Overview

The Slimstat Analytics plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery in versions up to, and including, 4.8.3. This is due to missing or incorrect nonce validation on the update_settings function. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts that execute in a victim's browser via forged request granted they can trick a site administrator into performing an action such as clicking on a link.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 4.8.4, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF)) The web application does not, or cannot, sufficiently verify whether a request was intentionally provided by the user who sent the request, which could have originated from an unauthorized actor.
