Vulnerability Overview

The Acunetix WP Security plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Cross-Site Request Forgery in versions up to, and including, 4.0.4. This is due to missing or incorrect nonce validation in the ~/box-database-backup.php file. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to trigger a database back-up via a forged request granted they can trick a site administrator into performing an action such as clicking on a link.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 4.0.5, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-352 (Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF)) The web application does not, or cannot, sufficiently verify whether a request was intentionally provided by the user who sent the request, which could have originated from an unauthorized actor.
