Vulnerability Overview

Server-side request forgery in the WP-DownloadManager plugin 1.68.4 for WordPress lets an attacker send crafted requests from the back-end server of a vulnerable web application via the file_remote parameter to download-add.php. It can help identify open ports, local network hosts and execute command on services

Technical Analysis

CWE-918: Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF)

Reaching this weakness in WP-DownloadManager < 1.68.5 takes a caller who can reach the endpoint. Server-side request forgery means the application fetches a URL supplied by the caller, turning the server into a proxy for requests the attacker could not make directly.

The request originates from inside the hosting network, which is how these flaws reach cloud metadata endpoints, internal admin panels and services that trust local traffic. For WP-DownloadManager the fix is 1.68.5: builds < 1.68.5 are affected, anything from 1.68.5 onward is not.

Update to version 1.68.5, or a newer patched version
