Vulnerability Overview
The WP CSV Exporter plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to CSV Injection in versions up to, and including, 1.3.6. Technical Analysis
The vector marks this flaw as requiring local or adjacent access, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed. A successful exploit has high impact on confidentiality, integrity, availability — full site compromise territory.
CWE-1236: Improper Neutralization of Formula Elements in a CSV File
The product saves user-provided information into a Comma-Separated Value (CSV) file, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could be interpreted as a command when the file is opened by a spreadsheet product.
Remediation
Update to version 1.3.7, or a newer patched version
How does WordSec protect against this?
The attempt arrives as an ordinary request to WP CSV Exporter: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: WP CSV Exporter 1.3.7 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
