Vulnerability Overview

The WCFM Marketplace plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to unauthorized modification and access of data in versions up to, and including, 3.4.11 due to missing capability checks on various AJAX actions. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with minimal permissions such as subscribers, to perform a wide variety of actions such as modifying shipping method details, modifying products, deleting arbitrary posts, and privilege escalation (via the wp_ajax_wcfm_vendor_store_online AJAX action).

Reaching this weakness in WCFM Marketplace <= 3.4.11 takes a caller who can reach the endpoint. SQL injection happens when request data is concatenated into a query instead of being bound as a parameter, letting an attacker change the structure of the statement rather than just its values.

A working injection can read any table the database user can see, which on a WordPress install means user records, password hashes and session or API secrets stored in options. For WCFM Marketplace the fix is 3.4.12: builds <= 3.4.11 are affected, anything from 3.4.12 onward is not.

Update to version 3.4.12, or a newer patched version

The attempt arrives as an ordinary request to WCFM Marketplace: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: WCFM Marketplace 3.4.12 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
