User Registration & Membership <= 5.2.1 - Authenticated (Subscriber+) Insecure Direct Object Reference to Membership Tier Modification

Vulnerability Overview

The User Registration & Membership – Free & Paid Memberships, Subscriptions, Content Restriction, User Profile, Custom User Registration & Login Builder plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Insecure Direct Object Reference in all versions up to, and including, 5.2.1 due to missing validation on a user controlled key. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to register as other membership tiers.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 5.2.2, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-639 (Authorization Bypass Through User-Controlled Key) The system's authorization functionality does not prevent one user from gaining access to another user's data or record by modifying the key value identifying the data.
