Vulnerability Overview

The Ultimate Member plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Insecure Direct Object Reference in versions prior to version 2.0.4. This is due to bypass access restriction via unspecified vectors. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers to modify the other users profiles via unspecified vectors.

Reaching this weakness in Ultimate Member < 2.0.4 takes a caller who can reach the endpoint. Authorization bypass through a user-controlled key, often called insecure direct object reference, means the application looks up a record by an identifier from the request without checking that the caller owns it.

Changing a number in the request is enough to read or modify other users' records, which on commerce and membership sites means customer data. For Ultimate Member the fix is 2.0.4: builds < 2.0.4 are affected, anything from 2.0.4 onward is not.

None of that substitutes for the fix: Ultimate Member 2.0.4 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
