Vulnerability Overview

The Simple File List plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file deletion in versions up to, and including, 6.1.9. This is due to insufficient controls on files passed to a deletion function. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to delete arbitrary files, which can lead to a denial of service or remote code execution when the wp-config.php file is deleted.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 6.1.10, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')) The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory.
