Vulnerability Overview

The Points and Rewards for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to missing authorization due to a missing capability check on the 'wps_wpr_points_update' function in versions up to, and including, 1.5.0. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to update reward points.

CWE-862: Missing Authorization

Points and Rewards for WooCommerce <= 1.5.0 carries this weakness at wps_wpr_points_update, and reaching it takes a caller who can reach the endpoint. A missing authorization check means a function is reachable by anyone who can reach the endpoint, because the code never asks whether the caller is allowed to perform the action.

Any user who can reach the endpoint gets to run an action reserved for higher-privileged roles, from reading protected data to changing settings or content. For Points and Rewards for WooCommerce the fix is 1.6.0: builds <= 1.5.0 are affected, anything from 1.6.0 onward is not.

Update to version 1.6.0, or a newer patched version
