At a glance

CVE-2026-111114 is a high-severity Improper Privilege Management vulnerability in the Nexter Extension WordPress plugin, affecting versions <= 4.7.11. It carries a CVSS score of 7.5 (reachable over the network; high confidentiality, integrity, availability impact). Exploitation requires an authenticated account at Subscriber level or above. The issue is fixed in version 4.7.12; sites on affected versions should update now. Disclosed October 2026, reported by elaprendiz1927.

Vulnerability Overview

The Nexter Extension – Security, Performance, Code Snippets & Site Toolkit plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Privilege Escalation in all versions up to, and including, 4.7.11 The vulnerability exists because the `/?reset-view` handler in `role_switcher_to_view_admin_as()` performs no nonce or capability check when the supplied username matches the authenticated caller, and because the plugin's only cleanup mechanism — the `profile_update` hook — does not fire when WordPress performs a bulk role change via `wp-admin/users.php?action=promote`, which calls `WP_User::set_role()` directly and leaves a stale `administrator` value in the `nxtext_view_admin_original_role` user meta. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers with Subscriber-level access or above to restore the stale stored Administrator role to their own account, effectively escalating their privileges to Administrator. Exploitation requires that the attacker's account previously held the Administrator role and used the View Admin Role Switcher feature before being demoted specifically through the bulk role-change control rather than the Edit User screen, as only the bulk path bypasses the `profile_update` hook that would otherwise have cleared the stored original role.

Technical Analysis

The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, and no interaction from a victim user. A successful exploit has high impact on confidentiality, integrity, availability — full site compromise territory.

CWE-269: Improper Privilege Management

Nexter Extension <= 4.7.11 carries this weakness at role_switcher_to_view_admin_as(), and reaching it takes an account at Subscriber level or above. Improper privilege management means the code lets an account end up with capabilities its role should not have.

It converts a low-privileged account into an administrative one, which makes every other restriction on the site irrelevant. For Nexter Extension the fix is 4.7.12: builds <= 4.7.11 are affected, anything from 4.7.12 onward is not.

Remediation

Update to version 4.7.12, or a newer patched version

How does WordSec protect against this?

Because it turns on account access, WordSec's login security is the relevant layer: role-based two-factor, captcha and brute-force limits raise the cost of getting the account this needs. None of that substitutes for the fix: Nexter Extension 4.7.12 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
