Vulnerability Overview
SQL injection vulnerability in includes/nsp_search.php in the NewStatPress plugin before 0.9.9 for WordPress allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the where1 parameter in the nsp_search page to wp-admin/admin.php.

Reaching this weakness in NewStatPress <= 0.9.8 takes any authenticated account. SQL injection happens when request data is concatenated into a query instead of being bound as a parameter, letting an attacker change the structure of the statement rather than just its values.
A working injection can read any table the database user can see, which on a WordPress install means user records, password hashes and session or API secrets stored in options. For NewStatPress the fix is 0.9.9: builds <= 0.9.8 are affected, anything from 0.9.9 onward is not.

Update to version 0.9.9, or a newer patched version

The attempt arrives as an ordinary request to NewStatPress: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: NewStatPress 0.9.9 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
