Vulnerability Overview

The WPGYM - Wordpress Gym Management System plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file uploads due to missing file type validation in the MJ_gmgt_user_avatar_image_upload() function in all versions up to, and including, 67.1.0. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to upload arbitrary files on the affected site's server which may make remote code execution possible.

WPGYM - Wordpress Gym Management System <= 67.1.0 carries this weakness at MJ_gmgt_user_avatar_image_upload(), and reaching it takes no account at all. An unrestricted file upload lets a caller store a file whose type or destination the application does not properly constrain.

If an uploaded file lands anywhere the server will execute, the flaw becomes remote code execution and the site should be treated as fully compromised. For WPGYM - Wordpress Gym Management System the fix is 67.2.0: builds <= 67.1.0 are affected, anything from 67.2.0 onward is not.

Update to version 67.2.0, or a newer patched version

How does WordSec protect against this?
