Vulnerability Overview

Several WordPress plugins using elFinder versions 2.1.64 and prior are vulnerable to Directory Traversal in various versions. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to delete arbitrary files. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires a site owner to explicitly make an instance of the file manager available to users.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 5.4.0, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')) The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory.
