XStore Core <= 5.3.8 - Authenticated (Subscriber+) Limited Arbitrary File Download
Strategic Overview
<= 5.3.8CVE-2024-33558Vulnerability Overview
The et-core-plugin plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file downloads in all versions up to, and including, 5.3.8. This is due to the plugin not properly restricting which files can be downloaded. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with subscriber-level access and above, to download arbitrary files that may contain sensitive information like wp-config.php.
Technical Analysis
REMEDIATION: Update to version 5.3.9, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')) The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory.
