Vulnerability Overview

The Enable Media Replace plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to path traversal when renaming files in versions up to, and including, 3.6.3. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrator-level permissions and above, to move files on the affected site's server outside of the webroot.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 4.0.0, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')) The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory.
