Vulnerability Overview

The Drag and Drop Multiple File Upload - Contact Form 7 plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to arbitrary file uploads due to insufficient file type validation in the 'dnd_upload_cf7_upload' function in versions up to, and including, 1.3.7.3. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to upload arbitrary files on the affected site's server which may make remote code execution possible. This can be exploited if the form includes a multiple file upload field with ‘*’ as the accepted file type.

Drag and Drop Multiple File Upload for Contact Form 7 <= 1.3.9.5 carries this weakness at dnd_upload_cf7_upload, and reaching it takes no account at all. An unrestricted file upload lets a caller store a file whose type or destination the application does not properly constrain.

If an uploaded file lands anywhere the server will execute, the flaw becomes remote code execution and the site should be treated as fully compromised. For Drag and Drop Multiple File Upload for Contact Form 7 the fix is 1.3.9.6: builds <= 1.3.9.5 are affected, anything from 1.3.9.6 onward is not.

Update to version 1.3.9.6, or a newer patched version

How does WordSec protect against this?
