Vulnerability Overview
The Popup Box Business and Developer plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via admin settings in versions 20.0.0 to 20.9.0 (Developer) and versions 7.0.0 to 7.9.0 (Business) due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with administrator-level permissions and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This only affects multi-site installations and installations where unfiltered_html has been disabled. Please note this affects the premium version of the plugin despite the shared slug.

Reaching this weakness in Popup Box (Developer) 20.0.0 – < 20.9.0 takes an account at Admin level or above. Cross-site scripting happens when input from a request is written into a page without being escaped for the context it lands in, so the browser parses attacker-supplied text as markup or script.
Injected script runs with the privileges of whoever views the affected page, which is how these flaws turn into administrator session theft, silent account creation or persistent backdoors in page content. For Popup Box (Developer) the fix is 20.9.0: builds 20.0.0 – < 20.9.0 are affected, anything from 20.9.0 onward is not.

Update to version 20.9.0, or a newer patched version

An attacker needs Admin access first, so the firewall sees the attempt as traffic from a logged-in account: WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: Popup Box (Developer) 20.9.0 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
