Vulnerability Overview

The Aspose.Words – Import and Export word documents plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Arbitrary File Download in versions up to, and including, 1.0. This is due to insufficient input sanitization of the 'file' parameter. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to download any file, including configuration files.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 2.0, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal')) The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory.
