Vulnerability Overview
The All-In-One Security (AIOS) – Security and Firewall plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to IP Address Spoofing in versions up to, and including, 5.0.8. This is due to insufficient restrictions on where the IP Address information is being retrieved for request logging and login restrictions. Attackers can supply the X-Forwarded-For header with with a different IP Address that will be logged and can be used to bypass settings that may have blocked out an IP address.
Technical Analysis
The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed, and no privileges on the target site, and no interaction from a victim user.
CWE-348: Use of Less Trusted Source
The product has two different sources of the same data or information, but it uses the source that has less support for verification, is less trusted, or is less resistant to attack.
Remediation
Update to version 5.0.8, or a newer patched version
How does WordSec protect against this?
The attempt arrives as an ordinary request to All-In-One Security (AIOS): WordSec's web application firewall inspects request payloads before WordPress loads them. None of that substitutes for the fix: All-In-One Security (AIOS) 5.0.8 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
