Vulnerability Overview
The Academy LMS – WordPress LMS Plugin for Complete eLearning Solution plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to privilege escalation in all versions up to, and including, 3.3.7. This is due to the plugin not properly validating a user's role prior to registering a user via the Social Login addon. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to update their role to Administrator when registering on the site.

It converts a low-privileged account into an administrative one, which makes every other restriction on the site irrelevant. For Academy LMS Pro the fix is 3.3.8: builds <= 3.3.7 are affected, anything from 3.3.8 onward is not.

Update to version 3.3.8, or a newer patched version

None of that substitutes for the fix: Academy LMS Pro 3.3.8 closes this, and updating the plugin is the step that ends it.
