Vulnerability Overview

WordPress Core is vulnerable to an Email Change Confirmation Bypass in all versions up to, and including, 7.0.2 due to inconsistent validation of the new email address when a user profile is updated. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with Subscriber-level access and above, to change the email address on their account without completing the ownership confirmation step.

Technical Analysis

The vector marks this flaw as remotely reachable over the network, with low attack complexity — no special timing or configuration is needed, and no interaction from a victim user.

CWE-345: Insufficient Verification of Data Authenticity

The product does not sufficiently verify the origin or authenticity of data, in a way that causes it to accept invalid data.
