Vulnerability Overview
The XMLRPC API in WordPress before 3.5.1 allows remote attackers to send HTTP requests to intranet servers, and conduct port-scanning attacks, by specifying a crafted source URL for a pingback, related to a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) issue.
Technical Analysis
REMEDIATION: Update to version 3.5.1, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-918 (Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF)) The web server receives a URL or similar request from an upstream component and retrieves the contents of this URL, but it does not sufficiently ensure that the request is being sent to the expected destination.
