Vulnerability Overview

Open redirect vulnerability in wp-admin/upgrade.php in WordPress, probably 2.6.x, allows remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary web sites and conduct phishing attacks via a URL in the backto parameter.

Technical Analysis

REMEDIATION: Update to version 2.8.1, or a newer patched version --- IDENTIFIER: CWE-601 (URL Redirection to Untrusted Site ('Open Redirect')) The web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a redirect.
